KHOROG, November 19, 2008, Asia-Plus /Shonavruz Afzalshoyev/ — A new building has been constructed for the health center in the village of Navobod, GBAO’s Shugnan district due to funds provided from local
budget, Bodur Bodurbekov, the deputy head of the GBAO health directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus. According to him, 340,000 somoni have been allocated from the GABO regional budget over
the past two years for construction of the building that was officially opened on November 16. “Besides, over the same two-year period, major repairs have been made to the health center in the village of Bar Rushan in the Rushan district due to funds provided by the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has funded renovation of the health center in the village of Tavdem in the Roshtqala district,” Bodurbekov said.
“Two other health centers are currently being built in the village of Tekharv, Vanj district and the village of Andarob in Ishkashim due to funds provided by the Ministry of Health and one more health center is being constructed in the administrative center of the Roshtqala district under financial support of the ADB,” the GBAO health official said, adding that more than 30 health centers are expected to have been opened in remote villages by the end of this year. He noted that construction of 22 of them has been funded from local budget, four others have been built under financial support of the World Bank and construction of five health centers has been sponsored by the Aga Khan Foundation’s Health Program.
