Newly launched Programme for Continuous Education
Coastweek – – The Aga Khan Health Service Kenya’s Community Health Department Holds a Successful Training Course “On Managing a Health Facility”
Held at the Milele Beach Hotel between 8th – 26th October 2007, this three weeks course was geared towards health managers and participants came from all over Kenya with one international participant from Tajikistan.
The course introduced them to management principles, effective and efficient practices in management of health services by managing people, assets, finances and health services.
This course is part of the newly launched Programme for Continuous Education and plans are in place to offer the same course next year in August.
Provincial Medical officer Coast, Dr Anderson Kahindi receives a bouquet of flowers from the Community Health Director while Mrs Narmin Somji, the President of the Aga Khan Council Mombasa looks on.
Additional courses to be introduced in the next year will include Community Based Health Development to be introduced in March 2008 and Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Surveillance in June 2008.
The Programme contributes to human resource development in the health sector by providing an academic structure for continuous training opportunities in community health.
Speaking on the occasion of certificate distribution ceremony Dr. Anderson Kahindi, Provincial Medical Officer, Coast Province mentioned the government’s policy and effort to keep the knowledge and skills of health staff updated.
He appreciated the Programme effort and noted its contribution in government health sector.
Mrs. Narmin Somji, President of Aga Khan Council in Mombasa elaborated the contribution of the Aga Khan Development Network in social and economic development of the country.
Dr. Amyn Lakhani, Director of CHD mentioned the acute need of high quality training programmes which provides the health staff with knowledge, skills and confidence to face the challenges of ever changing and improving health service delivery.
Worth noting is the fact that the ministry has now earmarked key activities in quality management and improvements as it prepares for ISO certification.
The Provincial Medical Officer mentioned that the training came in at an opportune time when the Ministry of health in its National Health Strategic plan II vision emphasizes on efficient and high quality healthcare system.
