A student can learn all three aspects – reading, writing, speaking. Even tourists, expatriates, volunteers, etc, who may only be interested in oral Urdu, the Roman transliteration facilitates that without having to learn the script. This is a complete treatment of all aspects of the Urdu script, including tips to get you up to speed. Vowels and consonants are contrasted to make learning easier. Many exercises let you test your progress. A 4,000+ word tri-directional (Urdu, Roman transliteration, English) dictionary facilitates different ways to look up. Much of the material herein is presented in tables, making its presentation easier to grasp. In the equivalence of one semester, a learner can be sufficiently up to speed, preparing him/her for further enhancement by regularly going through material freely available on the Internet.
