Nizamuddin Rezahi: “From Poverty to Prosperity – The power of intrinsic motivation”

Nizamuddin Rezahi is a Head of HR for Central Asia at Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Tajikistan.

Born on 31 December 1988 in a poor neighborhood in Kabul, Afghanistan, Nizam came of age during the civil war in Afghanistan.

As a teenager living under the Taliban regime, he had to contribute to his family’s income as the economy worsened. At the time, carpet weaving was one of the only skilled trades that provided opportunities for gainful employment. Under the tutelage of his neighbor, and with the help of his father and two sisters, Nizam and his family set up a small weaving business in their home that sustained them during the worst years under Taliban rule.
