Iqbal Noor Ali, Aga Khan Foundation CEO
Iqbal Noor Ali, 68, who spent more than 30 years at the Aga Khan Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization, and became chief executive before stepping down in 2009, died Aug. 26 at his home in McLean, Va. The cause was liver failure, said his daughter, Sehreen Noor Ali.
Mr. Noor Ali was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and settled in the Washington area in 1984 to work for the foundation. After leaving as chief executive, he remained a senior adviser. He served on the board of the Council on Foundations and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid.

Hi – I recall meeting and talking with the late Iqbal Noor Ali at the London, UK, GJ in 2008. While I did not know him personally,I introduced myself and asked him if he was Noor Ali, the CEO of AKF (USA), that I had seen interviewed on the PBS Newshour, a few years earlier, on a story relating to Afghanistan. He was pleasantly surprised and pleased that a Jamati member had seen and recalled the interview that was done 3-4 years earlier. May His Soul Rest in Peace – Amen.

Great guy. Loved life and enjoyed life to the fullest. He will definitely be missed by most who knew him. I was previlaged to be his friend for the past 50 years. Thanks Iqbal for the memorable friendship.

I knew Iqbal from the time I was practicing law in Canada in the late 1970s and then connected with him as the AKF was evolving over the 80s and 90s.
I Had occasion to work closely with him while I was at Aiglemont- particularly through the Information Department as it was known then.
Iqbal was very focused,understood developmental issues and had a lovely sense of humour.
I pray that may the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest and peace and to his family the strength and fortitude to bear this irretrievable loss.
No doubt he will be missed.

We were the best of friends met every day until he left for USA then we lost touch he was the Grearest of the great

I decided to get in touch with Iqbal and found this “terrible” link. We went to college together in Karachi .. St. Patrick’s college and privileged to call him a friend. Late finding this but so sorry.. Condolences to his family… he was a wonderful person and great friend.
