After completing her first degree in Psychology, Zakhiyya Murji’s role as a caseworker with Edmonton-based Aga Khan Social Welfare Board changed her life and defined her career path.
“I ventured out into the working world to find my place,” Murji says. “I worked in the areas of trauma, addictions, homelessness, and domestic violence and found that helping families was what I wanted to do.” Then she chose the University of Calgary for her social work degree and has never looked back.
Murji is one of 42 recipients of University of Calgary Alumni Association bursaries and scholarships, fully funded through donations to the alumni bursary fund, and given yearly to deserving undergraduate students from faculties across campus.
