Chicago native Yasmin Bhatia knew she wanted to make a difference in the lives of children.
When the former McKinsey & Co. business analyst toured a few Uplift schools with founder Rosemary Perlmeter, she was hooked.
Uplift Education is a network of tuition-free public charter schools that educate almost 5,000 students in underserved areas of North Texas.
As CEO, Bhatia works to provide support to school leaders so they can build and sustain Uplift’s schools. She’s also working with the management team and board to create and execute a five-year plan of serving 13,000 students and opening 20 schools by 2015.
Bhatia’s advice to others: “Have the courage to make tough decisions,” she says. “Always be compassionate and respectful.”
