Aga Khan’s 70th birthday today

KARACHI: Ismaili Muslims will celebrate the 70th birthday of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan on Wednesday. The Aga Khan’s birthday falls on December 13 and the day is marked by Ismailis all over the world with reverence. Ismaili Jamat Khanas across the city will celebrate the birthday.Explaining the annual ritual, a member of the community Navin Ghulam Haider disclosed that the celebrations begin with the recitation of Ginan (religious verses) after which Aga Khan’s letter, addressed to the members of community, is read out. “In the letter he collectively acknowledges the greetings he receives through email or telegrams and then conveys his blessings.” This is followed by distribution of sweets among all the members. A similar practice is observed in Jamat Khanas across the world. Prince Karim Aga Khan was born in 1936 in Geneva.
